A responsible approach to a renewable crop
Sugarcane is a renewable crop, and the Brazilian sector continues to develop practices around land use, water and by-product valorisation. We describe the context honestly and support buyers who ask questions about origin.
Why sugarcane is different
Sugarcane is a perennial, replanted crop that regrows after each harvest, and the Brazilian industry has developed around using the whole plant: sugar from the juice, ethanol from the fermentable fraction, and energy from the bagasse.
This does not make every operation sustainable by default. It means the sector has established practices that a buyer can ask about and verify at the level of a specific mill and shipment.

Topics we can discuss with buyers
Where a buyer needs evidence on any of these topics, we request the supporting documentation from the producing mill for that transaction.
Renewable crop
Sugarcane regrows after harvest across multiple cycles before replanting.
By-product use
Bagasse, molasses and filter cake are widely valorised within the sector.
Water and soil
Water reuse and soil management are established topics in Brazilian mill operations.
Traceability
Origin information can be requested from the producing mill for a given lot.
Organic supply
Certified organic volumes depend on certified mills and are evidenced per transaction.
Compliance
Applicable Brazilian legislation governs labour, environmental and export requirements.
What we will and will not claim
We will not publish sustainability metrics, certifications or environmental claims that we cannot evidence for a specific mill and a specific shipment. Generic claims are easy to write and impossible for a buyer to verify.
What we will do is take a buyer's origin and sustainability questions seriously, ask them of the producing mill, and pass on the documentation we receive as part of the commercial process.
